About the Manly Leagues Bridge Club
Finding a partner
Finding a partner in bridge can sometimes be challenging, especially when you are new to a club or to the game itself. You can list your interests and check others in the comments at the bottom of this article or here are some tips and possibilities to consider:
- While it is always your responsibility to find a partner, many clubs (but not all) are happy for you to come occasionally without a partner, especially if you are new to the club or your regular partner is out of action at short notice. Of course you might be playing with anyone and sometimes with a busy director! If the worst comes to the worst you might end up watching rather than playing - which can be almost as much fun.
- Keep an eye out when you are playing/watching for players you think you might enjoy playing with - this might be a combination of respect for their playing skills and perceiving a compatible personality
- Ask a number of players if they would like a game to see what playing with different players is like - at the Manly Leagues several experienced players have agreed to support a "buddy" system to partner new players to our club for a couple of sessions to help them get to know the club and its players
- You can publish on this site your interest in finding a partner by adding a comment below and you can check who else may have published such an interest - you may be surprised to find that someone else is looking for a partner at the same session
- When you are trying to establish a regular partnership, do it first on a trial basis for a period of time - perhaps a month - with a clear up-front expectation that either player can choose to move on without any animosity or need to give a reason
- The key is perhaps to be open about your desire to find a compatible partner and make the point that compatibility is an undefinable mutual thing and not simply a question of playing skill
- Even when you join with anonther player in what appears to be a good long term partnership it may still be a good idea to agree to discuss whether to continue on an annual basis - situations, preferences etc change
New players without partners or others who want to know more are invited to contact our New Member Coordinator, Pegg Carlson, on 9939 7535.
See the comments below for players who have indicated they are looking for a regular or occasional partner at the Manly Leagues Bridge Club's regular duplicate bridge sessions. Add your own comment. If your situation changes simply mention this in a later comment. You can also Subscribe to an RSS feed of these comments below - this will tell you when someone adds a new comment that may be of interest.
